Opening up the evening we welcome accomplished writer, filmmaker and neuroscientist ๐๐๐ก๐๐ง ๐๐ฅ๐ข back to Brewery Lane Theatre to showcase and celebrate his latest Short Film โ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ ๐โ which premiered at the Lighthouse Cinema, Dublin as part of the International Dublin Film Festival in Feb 2022 and had a World TV Premier, on Virgin Media One in March 2022.
Rehanโs powerful film โWater Under The Bridgeโ captures the unique journey of Bilal who has just arrived in a small Irish town. Protesting his father's warnings, he leaves the confines of Direct Provision to venture into this new world for the first time. Here he meets three local teens and their interaction is the catalyst to a self-realisation that could change everything. After surviving so much, can Bilal overcome this new struggle?"
Having left Pakistan with his own family when only six years of age and spending a large portion of his life as a Direct Provision resident in Carrick-on-Suir, residing at the Bridgewater House hostel, Rehanโs film though fictional is hugely authentic.
Rehan won the 2021 Virgin Media Discovers & Screen Ireland Short Film Competition. The prize of a production budget of โฌ30,000 to bring his script to life on screen as a 10-minute short film was announced live on Virgin TV by award-winning director and screenwriter Lenny Abrahamson. It was a dream come true for Rehan who said that โhe has always wanted to be a writer and filmmaker.โ
The film was shot completely in Carrick-on-Suir, the town Rehan considers to be his home and so is incredibly special to him. Covid-19 Health and Safety restrictions, made filming challenging and Rehan, Cast and Crew endured several delays and setbacks and final shooting timelines coincided with Rehan beginning a MSc Bioinformatics degree in UCC. So September 2021 was a busy month for Rehan, juggling studies with directing his film.
Rehan was โdetermined to cast as the protagonist someone who would understand and reflect the story of the filmโ, so when ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐ง, a childhood friend, from Carrick-on-Suir with his own relationship with Direct Provision and Bridgewater House, auditioned for the lead role, Rehan was astonished by his perfect fit to portray the character of Bilal. Rehan suggests that a positive to the postponing of shoot was that novice actor Peter Obidiran used the time to work with actor coach ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฒ, Brewery Lane Theatre developing his acting skills to deliver an incredible performance in the film.
During the evening we will be treated to a short showreel of Rehanโs journey in filmmaking, the screening of โWater Under the Bridgeโ. Following the screening, Rehan will be joined by creatives, ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐ง, ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ก๐ฒ, ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฒ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ญ ๐โ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง where we will learn about the behind the scenes making of this film through visuals and conversations, we will also hear a little about Rehanโs recent published writing successes and what he has next in the pipeline as he juggles Writing, Film-making and Neuroscience!there will be an opportunity for Q&A...an evening not to be missed!

We welcome for the first time to Carrick-on-Suir stages, independent Irish singer and guitaristย SรOMHAย . Sรญomha (pronounced She-vah) dances the line between folk, jazz and neo-soul effortlessly taking audiences on an unexpected and unforgettable journey with her soulful melodies. Her debut album โIn๏ฌnite Spaceโ - described by The Irish Times as โa seriously accomplished and self-con๏ฌdent debutโ - is a collection of songs in both Irish and English. A kind of cosmic, folk-informed, jazz-tinged, post-pop. Sรญomhaโs voice is full of raw heart-felt experience. When listening to her, audiences are instantly moved to feel on the deepest level and come out more intimately connected to their own worlds.
Coming from a family steeped in music in Co. Clare, Sรญomha grew up on a diet of musical greats with the sounds of jazz, trad, folk and soul creeping in and leaving an indelible mark on her musical tastes and in๏ฌuences. She started playing guitar at age 10 but it was later in her teens while attending high school in the south of France that she ๏ฌrst took up jazz guitar after a chance encounter led to her learning from an Italian gypsy who taught her the manouche gypsy jazz style. The chords and sounds of jazz fascinated and inspired Sรญomha and she began to craft her own songs.
The next few years saw her traveling, with music as her compass, soaking up the sounds of each of the places she travelled and further honing her craft. In late 2016, having traversed America, Canada and Mexico, she felt an innate draw to return to home shores and a phenomenal few years have followed. Sรญomha toured with Paul Brady, Wyvern Lingo, Moxie, Joey Dosik (Vulfpeck), Notify and has performed at festivals such as Electric Picnic, Celtic Connections (Glasgow) and Fรชte de la Musique at Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris.
Sรญomha is an artist full of heart and her music truly does defy any conventional genres. The in๏ฌuences of her musical background, her travels and musical explorations are audible in the music she creates. Always proud of her Irish heritage, she performs her songs in both the English and Irish languages. The beautiful landscape and rugged nature of her native West of Ireland are a huge source of inspiration for this proud Co. Clare artist leading her to create a soulful and unique style of music that enthrals anyone who hears it.
For this event Sรญomha will be accompanied by Martin Atkinson Borrull on keys and Fionn O Neill on bass.ย www.siomhamusic.com

No stranger to performing on Brewery Lane Stages and all across the South-East, Marie and Jane who are both originally from Dublin, have settled into Carrick-on-Suir with family and friends and now call Tipperary Home. Originally influenced by Mary Black and Sinead OโConnor, they now perform mostly their own original material. Marie is very passionate about the power of music to tell a story while Jane enjoys adding the magic of the melody.
There will be a short tea break between both Acts.
