2020 Lockdown Is/Was Sketchbook

Visual artist Sheila Wood, Tudor Artisan Hub created original mixed media artwork in the form of a Sketchbook from the words of the collaborative poem, Lockdown is / was…, written by the Poetry Plus community of writers. The writers had joined writer Margaret O'Brien weekly on her 'Poetry Plus' virtual open mic sessions, via Zoom, during 15 weeks of Covid Lockdown 1 - from March 20th to June 26th 2020. At the final session the writers were given the prompt 'Lockdown Is/Was…', and their varied and imaginative responses resulted in the collaborative poem.

Artist Sheila Wood was commissioned to sketch visuals from this collective poem. Sheila took this project so much further, creating a striking mixed-media images inspired by their powerful lines, which became the unique art piece, The Lockdown is / was… Sketchbook. Photographer, videographer Pete Smith was commissioned by Poetry Plus participating writers to create videos capturing this unique project as a gift for Margaret O'Brien, in thanks for keeping Poetry Plus alive during lockdown.
